By the beginning of the 18th Century, the economic condition of what was to become the United States began to attract expert craftsmen, carpenters, and cabinet makers from England and Scotland. An increase of sophistication and a gradual introduction of Georgian Architecture forms began. Brick and stone began to replace wood. Early detailing was crude and out of proportion, but this gradually changed as greater formality and symmetry came into being.
