Chapter 17

Romantic Cotswold villages gave rise to austere, commanding officious homes and governmental edifices. Study of Palladian designs gave England its first Renaissance Architect, Inigo Jones. The Great Fire of London in 1666 gave the world its first Building Code under the direction of Christopher Wren, the Frank Lloyd Wright of his time. There was no English Rococo.
